What will I learn?

If you like garden design and all things horticulture, then this is the course for you. This course is a blend of hands on learning and theory of horticulture and gardening. This course provides students with the knowledge, skills and competency to work in the garden design and horticulture professions. The qualification can also be used to progress onto further education and study. No previous experience is required.

How is this course taught?

This part time course is taught in person. Classes take place in Burgundy House in Swords. Classes are taught on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9:30 – 14:45. Please note, all class times and days can be subject to change.

When will this course take place?

This course will start in September 2026 and finish in May 2027. Students will have holidays during midterm breaks, Christmas and Easter.

Who can apply for this course?

Adults who live in the Fingal area, and who wish to work in the garden design and horticulture professions, can apply for this course. To ensure that you are offered a place on a course which is at the right level for you and appropriate to your learning needs all applicants are assessed prior to placement on the course. A high level of English language is required. IT skills are required for the course.

Am I eligible for course funding?

Students on this course are eligible for funding if:

  • they are an early school leaver, or
  • they are receiving a social welfare payment, or
  • they are receiving a carer’s payment, or
  • they have a medical card or G.P. card, or
  • they are signing for credits.
