WORK SMARTER PROGRAMME

Work Smarter was a programme run in collaboration with Eve Estuary Services to support adults with intellectual disabilities enter, progress and thrive in the workforce. It was funded by the Collaboration and Innovation Fund.

Working collaboratively with Eve Services, we devised a programme that would develop the service users’ literacy and numeracy skills. For example, filling out workplace forms or interpreting their payslips. We also provided workshops to improve the learners’ communication skills so they could advocate confidently for themselves with their employers and workmates. Finally, we provided a series of workshops on volunteering to explain how voluntary work could be rewarding for the learners and helped them identify the skills they have that would be valuable to a local community or voluntary group.

The feedback from learners, teachers and Eve Services was incredibly positive. We all learned a great deal from working together on this programme.

Anthony   I enjoyed working with Noreen (student). I enjoyed her class.
Therese   I enjoyed learning new things I can use in work.
Chris   This was very good. I’d like to come to more classes.
Stephen   I enjoyed all my classes down here. I liked the writing and computers. I enjoyed Leanne’s class and I want her back again.
